Reports To: Store Manager

Big Earth Landscape Supply is looking for an Assistant Manager for our Palmetto Store. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7am-5pm and Saturday 8am-1pm. This will be a fast paced, dynamic and physical job, based indoors and out. The ideal candidate will be someone who can assist the store manager, but accept the responsibility of managing the store when the manager is not present. Additionally, this person must have the skills to delegate work, but also the ability to frequently complete tasks too. The Assistant Manager will be required to use a loader and forklift daily and must be willing to learn if not already experienced. A candidate with experience driving larger trucks (ie: dump truck) or the willingness to learn is a plus. Assistant Manager must be capable of working outdoors to load customers, merchandise product or complete physical tasks that involve a forklift, loader or by hand. If qualifications and experience merit, applicant has opportunity to begin work immediately.

Summary: Assistant manager will oversee and help delegate day-to-day operations among staff and help guide the overall success of the store with the manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures exceptional customer service and accountability skills
  • Carries out verbal and written instructions
  • Delegates work to staff, completes tasks and ensures timely completion
  • Oversees and manages delivery board by routing and scheduling effectively
  • Takes orders for materials from customers (in person, phone and email)
  • Organizes paperwork (Purchase orders, accounts receivable, invoices, etc for corporate office efficiency)
  • Orders and manages inventory and arranges shipping or receiving, both manually and with equipment
  • Handles cash according to company guidelines
  • Reconciles daily sales
  • Identifies and resolves issues
  • Holds keys to location and safe code/access
  • Opens and closes daily operations
  • Performs merchandising, which includes but is not limited to, materials in the yard, involving use of a forklift, loader or by hand
  • Reconciles weekly payroll if the manager is not present
  • Works ten or more hours in one shift as needed

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in the lawn and landscape industry or related field preferred.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common documents (purchase orders, invoices, emails, etc). Ability to respond effectively to common inquiries or complaints from customers.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with common mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of inventory software; payroll systems; internet software and order processing systems.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid Driver's License

Supervisory Responsibilities:

With the guidance of the store manager, the assistant manager will supervise Yard, Counter Sales and Delivery employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 50 per week
